Flatting

1.Discuss everything!
You might want to be really chill and just see how things turn out, but chances are you’ll end up with one flatmate buying a dishwasher then wanting the rest of you to chip in. Better to be clear upfront on what you expect to spend and what luxuries you can live without.
2.When choosing the flat itself, keep in mind the things that are impossible to change later, but which will really matter when you try to live there. My suggestions: is it sunny, is it insulated, is it on a bus route, and do you have enough car parks

3.Get onto the internet and power companies as soon as possible

4.Finding a rental

First things first, you need to find your rental

RESPECT THE HOUSE RULES

COMMUNICATE

INVITE YOUR FLATMATES TO DO THINGS WITH YOU

SET YOUR BOUNDARIES

  1. Kia ora Cody,
Thank you for the informative blog post about flatting, there were a couple of tips that I wish I knew when I first started flatting when I lived in Dunedin. I especially could have used the advice to discuss everything as we had quite a few issues as no one talked to each other about things that annoyed them. This meant wee issues become large problems.
Why do you need to be on the bus route and have enough car parks?
